JAKARTA, September 18, 2026 – Sustainability innovation is no longer merely a supporting program for business operations, but has become an integral part of how PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP) creates value for the environment and communities. This commitment is reflected in the 71 awards secured by PLN NP through 15 of its power generation units at the 2026 Environmental and Social Innovation Awards (ENSIA), held in Bali on September 10, 2026.
The 71 awards comprised 17 Platinum Awards, 19 Gold Awards, 30 Silver Awards, one Best Participant Award, two Special Category Awards, and two Local Hero Awards. This achievement demonstrates PLN NP’s consistency in developing innovations that not only address operational needs but also generate tangible benefits for the environment and communities surrounding its power generation areas.
The recognized innovations span a wide range of areas, including energy and water efficiency, emissions reduction, waste management and utilization, biodiversity conservation, as well as social innovation and community empowerment.
Several of these innovations have successfully linked environmental benefits with efforts to strengthen local economies. At PLN NP’s Rembang Generation Unit, for example, the Pijar Gemilang program received a Special Category Award for its innovation in strengthening food security through waste management and the development of an independent local economy in Trenggulunan Village. The program also integrates the utilization of dragon fruit waste as part of the community’s circular economy.
Meanwhile, PLN NP’s Muara Tawar Generation Unit received a Special Category Award for Innovation in Clean Energy Transition through its Green Coastal Energy Ecosystem: Rebon Lestari program, which also earned a Gold Award in the Social Innovation category.
Other initiatives, including Kampung Patin from PLN NP Pekanbaru Generation Unit – Koto Panjang Hydropower Plant, SEMAR WATU from Gresik Generation Unit, Cirata Geulis from Cirata Generation Unit, and various community empowerment programs across other PLN NP units, demonstrate how social innovation is being developed to strengthen community capacity, independence, and resilience.
President Director of PLN Nusantara Power, Ruly Firmansyah, said the company’s achievements at ENSIA 2026 reflect the principle that sustainability must be translated into applicable innovations that deliver measurable benefits.
“For PLN Nusantara Power, innovation does not stop at receiving awards. What matters is how an idea can become a solution that delivers tangible and sustainable benefits. We continue to encourage PLN NP employees to develop innovations that improve power generation performance while creating positive impacts for the environment and communities. This is part of our commitment to delivering energy that is increasingly clean, reliable, and competitive, while strengthening Indonesia’s energy resilience and independence,” Ruly said.
According to Ruly, the strength of PLN NP’s innovation lies in its ability to integrate environmental, social, and business aspects within a single ecosystem. Therefore, innovations originating from PLN NP’s generation units are not only designed to address internal company challenges, but also to respond to issues faced by communities surrounding its operational areas.
PLN NP’s 2026 achievement also marks an improvement compared with ENSIA 2025, when the company received 46 awards. With 71 awards in 2026, a growing number of innovations developed across PLN NP units have gained recognition in various aspects of sustainability.
ENSIA 2026 was organized by PT SUCOFINDO and participated in by 253 companies, featuring 954 innovation projects and 48 Local Heroes, up from 178 companies and 690 innovation projects in the previous year.
Minister of Environment/Head of the Environmental Control Agency, Moh Jumhur Hidayat, emphasized the importance of businesses continuing to deliver environmental and social innovations as part of sustainable development.
“The various innovations introduced by businesses can encourage tangible contributions to environmental restoration, waste management, watershed rehabilitation, tree planting, clean energy transition, and the development of a green economy, all of which are important components of the national sustainable development agenda,” Jumhur said in an official statement from the Ministry of Environment.
This message is increasingly relevant to PLN NP’s development direction as the company continues to expand sustainability innovations across various areas of its operations. From power plants in urban areas to those located in coastal and rural regions, innovations are being developed through an approach that positions the environment and communities as integral parts of the company’s business ecosystem.
Through its achievements at ENSIA 2026, PLN NP has not only recorded another milestone, but also demonstrated the growing breadth of sustainability solutions emerging from its power generation units. Going forward, these innovations will continue to be developed and replicated to expand their benefits, while further strengthening PLN Nusantara Power’s role in delivering reliable, green, and sustainable power generation.(*)
