Jakarta, March 4, 2026 — PT PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP) continues to strengthen its role in advancing clean energy through strategic collaboration. This time, PLN NP has signed a Joint Development Study Agreement (JDSA) with PT Geo Dipa Energi (Persero) (GDE) to prepare a joint development study aimed at improving the operational performance of geothermal power plants while also opening opportunities for sustainable electricity business development.
Through this study, PLN NP and GDE will begin with the most fundamental step: ensuring that geothermal assets operate with greater reliability and efficiency. The main focus is the retrofit study of Dieng 1 Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP Dieng 1), which is expected to improve the plant’s reliability and efficiency. From there, both parties will also lay the groundwork for identifying the potential for further geothermal development through a measured technical and business approach.
President Director of PLN Nusantara Power, Ruly Firmansyah, emphasized that this cooperation is part of the company’s strategy to improve power plant performance while expanding the contribution of clean energy.
“The signing of this JDSA reflects PLN Nusantara Power’s commitment to delivering measurable improvements in power plant operational performance through strategic collaboration. We are promoting the retrofit of PLTP Dieng 1 as an effort to enhance reliability and efficiency, while also opening opportunities for geothermal development in other potential locations,” said Ruly.
The cooperation does not stop at retrofit. Its scope also extends toward future development — ranging from strengthening geothermal power plant technology, developing new geothermal projects, to green hydrogen initiatives based on geothermal energy.
“At the same time, we are also expanding our steps toward future energy through geothermal-based green hydrogen initiatives as part of the national clean energy transformation,” Ruly added.
PLN NP believes this collaboration stands on a strong foundation because it is built on an existing partnership. Over the past three years, PLN NP and GDE have realized beyond-kWh collaboration through more than eight cooperation contracts, with GDE utilizing PLN NP’s competencies to support operational needs and performance improvements. Through this JDSA, PLN NP is optimistic that the synergy with GDE will accelerate the optimization of geothermal assets, strengthen energy resilience, and support the acceleration of Indonesia’s green energy transition.
