Bogor, 5 December 2025 — PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP), in collaboration with the Organic Forest Foundation (Yayasan Hutan Organik), carried out the planting of 3,000 trees at the Megamendung Organic Forest, Bogor. The initiative aims to rehabilitate degraded land through a sustainable reforestation program that contributes directly to ecosystem restoration. Together with the Organic Forest Foundation, PLN NP targets the planting of 3,000 tree seedlings annually, both as enrichment planting and new forest regeneration.
The program, titled “Rebuilding the Tropical Rainforest of West Java,” was initiated to transform degraded and barren land into a thriving green area. Since the program’s inception in 2020, PLN Nusantara Power has planted 12,000 trees across 5 hectares of the Organic Forest area, helping to restore environmental damage caused by years of deforestation. To date, the initiative has contributed to carbon absorption totaling 760.38 tons of CO?.
President Director of PLN Nusantara Power, Ruly Firmansyah, emphasized that this agenda is one of the Company’s key and regularly implemented environmental initiatives.
“PLN Nusantara Power recognizes the critical importance of green areas as natural buffers to prevent landslides and flooding. At the Megamendung Organic Forest, we are restoring the ecosystem by planting vetiver grass, which functions as a living barrier to prevent soil erosion, as well as African tree species that strengthen soil structure and act as landslide mitigation,” explained Ruly.
A key milestone of the project is the implementation of an agroforestry system, which balances economic development needs with biodiversity conservation. The trees planted under this initiative are diverse, with a strong focus on restoring local flora and improving soil quality. In particular, selected species—such as African trees—play a significant role in enhancing soil stability and reducing landslide risks.
The initiative also actively involves educational institutions and local communities, both through training programs and during the restoration process. This social engagement ensures that local communities are not merely passive beneficiaries, but active participants in environmental management and conservation.
“Through this partnership, we are not only increasing vegetation cover and biodiversity in the area, but also contributing to social development by providing training programs that empower local communities to understand and manage sustainable forestry practices,” Ruly added.
The success of the program will be monitored regularly through vegetation assessments, with continuous updates on its achievements in enhancing biodiversity and advancing long-term reforestation efforts.
