Accelerating Green Hydrogen Ecosystem, PLN Nusantara Power Showcases Key Innovations at GHES 2026
Jakarta, July 21, 2026 – The development of green hydrogen has entered a new chapter in Indonesia's energy transition journey. As a pioneer in green hydrogen utilization within the power sector, PT PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP) continues to strengthen its contribution to building a national hydrogen ecosystem through various innovations showcased at the Global Hydrogen Ecosystem Summit & Exhibition (GHES) 2026, held at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC) on July 21–23, 2026.
PLN NP's participation in this international forum underscores the company's readiness to deliver low-carbon energy solutions that extend beyond green hydrogen production to include infrastructure development, technology, and application in both transportation and power sectors.
GHES 2026 was officially opened by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR), Bahlil Lahadalia, who emphasized that hydrogen will become a crucial pillar in strengthening national energy security.
"I am confident that within the next five to ten years at the latest, hydrogen will be capable of competing with battery electric vehicles. Developing hydrogen is a strategic step to bolster energy independence, drive industrial downstreaming, and accelerate national energy self-sufficiency," said Bahlil Lahadalia during the opening of GHES 2026.
In line with the government's policy direction, PLN Nusantara Power showcased a range of green hydrogen development innovations at its exhibition booth. Highlights included a mock-up of the Muara Tawar Hydrogen Refueling Station (HRS), hydrogen-powered vehicles (H-E Nusantara, FCEV Cruiser), as well as comprehensive information on the Green Hydrogen Plant (GHP) and Hydrogen Fuel Cell Generator (HFCG) developed by the company.
Beyond the exhibition, PLN NP also reinforced strategic collaborations through a partnership signing on the second day and contributed as a speaker in a seminar titled "Critical Mineral Strategy: Industry Opportunities in Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Technology" on the third day, discussing hydrogen industry opportunities in Indonesia.
President Director of PLN Nusantara Power, Ruly Firmansyah, highlighted that green hydrogen is a key strategy for the company in supporting the transformation of the national energy system toward a cleaner and more sustainable future.
"PLN Nusantara Power believes that the future of energy relies not only on increasingly green power generation, but also on the ability to deliver clean energy in various forms. Therefore, we continue to build an integrated hydrogen ecosystem—spanning production, distribution, to application—to support the national transportation, industrial, and power sectors. This is PLN Nusantara Power's tangible contribution to accelerating Indonesia's energy transition."
One of the main attractions for visitors was the Hydrogen Electric Nusantara (H-E Nusantara), the first Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) hybrid in Indonesia powered by green hydrogen produced by PLN Nusantara Power. The vehicle boasts a driving range of up to 270 kilometers with a refueling time of approximately five minutes, making it an efficient, low-emission mobility solution.
PLN Nusantara Power's green hydrogen initiative has already demonstrated measurable impact. The company’s total green hydrogen production is capable of supporting environmentally friendly vehicle travel up to approximately 9 million kilometers, while offering the potential to reduce carbon emissions by up to 1.4 million kilograms of $CO_2$ compared to conventional fossil-fuel vehicles.
In the power sector, PLN Nusantara Power developed the HFCG, a portable hydrogen-based generator that delivers zero-carbon electricity. This technology has been deployed at various national events and served as a clean power source during GHES 2026. Previously, the HFCG was successfully operated to electrify Gili Ketapang Island, marking the first implementation of a hydrogen-based power generator in Indonesia's archipelagic regions.
PLN Nusantara Power’s commitment to green hydrogen development began with the inauguration of Indonesia’s first GHP at the Muara Karang Combined Cycle Power Plant (PLTGU) in 2023. Today, these operations have expanded across seven additional power plant units—Muara Tawar, Indramayu, Rembang, Tanjung Awar-awar, Gresik, Pacitan, and Paiton—bringing the total to eight operational Green Hydrogen Plants with a combined production capacity of 94.63 tons of green hydrogen per year.
