Jakarta, December 18, 2025 – PT PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP) continues to accelerate the development of green power generation as part of the company’s business transformation toward a cleaner, more reliable, and sustainable electricity system. This initiative aligns with PLN NP’s vision to become a trusted and leading power generation company in supporting Indonesia’s national energy transition and the Net Zero Emission (NZE) target by 2060.
One of the key milestones in this journey is the Cirata Floating Solar Power Plant (PLTS Terapung Cirata) located at the Cirata Reservoir in West Java. With a capacity of 192 MWp, this floating solar power plant is the largest in Indonesia and the ASEAN region, marking a new chapter in the development of large-scale renewable energy in the country. Commercially operational since November 2023, the Cirata Floating Solar PV is capable of generating up to 300 GWh of clean electricity annually and reducing carbon emissions by approximately 214,000 tons of CO? per year.
President Director of PLN Nusantara Power, Ruly Firmansyah, emphasized that the development of green power plants is a long-term strategy to address future challenges in the energy sector.
“The energy transition requires courage to move forward and consistency in execution. PLN Nusantara Power has chosen to be at the forefront by developing green power plants that are measurable, sustainable, and deliver tangible impacts on the national electricity system,” said Ruly.
The Cirata Floating Solar PV was developed by utilizing the reservoir’s surface area for power generation without disrupting the primary function of water resources. The synergy between the floating solar plant and the Cirata Hydropower Plant, which has been operating since 1988, positions the area as an ideal example of renewable energy integration. Supported by a strong transmission network in Java, the project also plays a vital role in maintaining system reliability in Indonesia’s highest peak-load region.
The success of this National Strategic Project serves as a foundation for PLN NP’s green power expansion across various regions. Currently, PLN NP also operates the Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN) Solar Power Plant with a capacity of 50 MW, equipped with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) of 8.3 MWh to support reliable electricity supply in Kalimantan. In addition, the development of a floating solar power plant at Karangkates Reservoir is being prepared as part of efforts to optimize reservoir utilization for clean energy.
Through its subsidiary, PT PLN Nusantara Renewables, PLN NP is also developing various other renewable energy projects, including the Java-1 Solar PV Project in Batang, Pemalang, Paiton, and Sumenep, as well as the Mentari Nusantara Project, which encompasses solar power development across several regions in Java and outside Java, along with hydropower projects in Sumatra.
Ruly added that Indonesia’s renewable energy potential—particularly floating solar power—remains vast and largely untapped.
“With hundreds of dams and reservoirs across Indonesia, floating solar power offers significant opportunities to accelerate the clean energy mix without adding pressure on land use. PLN Nusantara Power is ready to optimize this potential through collaboration, technological innovation, and sustainable project management,” Ruly concluded.
Through integrated and continuous green power development, PLN Nusantara Power reaffirms its role as a key driver of the energy transition, delivering clean energy to support national economic growth and a greener future for Indonesia. (*)
