Tuban, 20 September 2025 – PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP), through its Tanjung Awar-Awar Power Generation Unit (UPTA), remains committed to safeguarding food security while supporting the health of community livestock. This commitment was demonstrated through an outreach and education program on the prevention and control of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) and Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) for livestock farmers living around the power plant area. The activity was held at the Akhlak Building of UPTA, Jenu District, Tuban Regency, on Thursday (11/9).
Organized in collaboration with the Gabungan Pelaku Usaha Peternakan Sapi Potong Indonesia (GAPUSPINDO), the event was attended by 120 livestock farmers from surrounding areas. The program began with a visit to the SATRIA PADU Communal Livestock Facility (Integrated Agricultural and Livestock Education Center), a flagship CSR initiative of PLN NP UPTA that has become a learning hub for the sustainable management of goats, sheep, and cattle.
During the session, farmers received direct education from experts, including Hermanto, who explained cattle farming techniques; Pipin Diah Larasati, Head of the Tuban Regency Food Security, Agriculture, and Fisheries Office, who discussed LSD prevention; and Didiek Purwanto, Chairman of GAPUSPINDO, who emphasized the importance of implementing biosecurity measures in livestock areas.
“Although current cases of FMD and LSD are relatively minimal, the risk of outbreaks remains. Given Tuban’s potential as one of East Java’s major beef cattle centers, the application of biosecurity is essential to maintaining livestock sustainability,” Pipin stated.
The SATRIA PADU program, as part of PLN NP UPTA’s CSR initiatives, has delivered tangible benefits, including increased livestock productivity of up to 4–5 kg per month, ensured feed availability during the dry season, and empowerment of 157 beneficiaries from six farmer and livestock groups.
President Director of PLN Nusantara Power, Ruly Firmansyah, emphasized that energy resilience and food security are closely interconnected in supporting sustainable community livelihoods.
“For PLN Nusantara Power, sustainability is not only about energy, but also about the well-being of surrounding communities. Through programs such as SATRIA PADU and this biosecurity education initiative, we aim to ensure that smallholder livestock farming remains healthy, productive, and capable of supporting national food security,” said Ruly.
The activity received broad appreciation from the community, which recognized that the synergy between PLN Nusantara Power and GAPUSPINDO not only raises awareness of livestock disease risks, but also opens opportunities to sustainably improve farmers’ welfare.
