Jakarta, March 15, 2026 — PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP) has once again recorded an important milestone in strengthening the electricity system in eastern Indonesia. Through its subsidiary, PLN Nusantara Power Construction (PLN NPC), PLN NP successfully achieved the First Synchronization stage for the PLTU Sofifi 2x3 MW Unit #2 project, located in Sofifi, Halmahera Island, North Maluku, in early February 2026.
First Synchronization is a critical process marking the successful initial synchronization of a power plant with the electricity grid owned by PT PLN (Persero). This achievement represents a strategic step in ensuring the operational readiness of the plant to strengthen electricity supply in Sofifi, the capital city of North Maluku Province, as well as the surrounding areas.
President Director of PLN Nusantara Power, Ruly Firmansyah, stated that this project is part of PLN Nusantara Power’s efforts to support equitable electricity access while strengthening the national power system.
“The successful First Synchronization of PLTU Sofifi Unit #2 demonstrates PLN Nusantara Power’s commitment to delivering reliable power plants in support of electricity reliability in eastern Indonesia. We hope this plant will provide tangible benefits to the community and support economic activity in North Maluku,” said Ruly.
The process leading to the First Synchronization of Unit #2 went through a series of comprehensive equipment tests and fulfilled all required technical conditions, including the issuance of the Synchronization Readiness Recommendation (RLS) from PLN’s Certification Center (Pusertif). Throughout the project execution, various field challenges were successfully addressed through solid coordination and collaboration among all parties involved.
President Director of PLN Nusantara Power Construction, Djarot Hutabri, emphasized that this achievement is the result of the hard work of the entire project team, who remain committed to completing the plant construction optimally.
“PLN Nusantara Power Construction is committed to continuing to strengthen the reliability of the national electricity system, particularly in North Maluku, in order to encourage economic growth and improve the quality of electricity services for the community,” said Djarot.
The successful First Synchronization of Unit #2 complements the previous achievement of PLTU Sofifi Unit #1, which was handed over to PLN’s Main Distribution Unit for Maluku & North Maluku on November 14, 2025. The Taking Over Certificate (TOC) for Unit #1 was also signed between PLN UIP Maluku Papua and PLN NPC on January 7, 2026.
In the construction of the PLTU Sofifi 2x3 MW project, PLN NPC carried out a wide range of works, including civil erection works, mechanical, piping, instrumentation, and electrical works, up to the testing and commissioning stages. The project will next proceed to a 14-day Reliability Run, followed by a Performance Test, before ultimately reaching its Commercial Operation Date (COD).
PLTU Sofifi plays an important role in strengthening the electricity system on Halmahera Island. The plant supplies electricity to Sofifi and surrounding areas, while also helping reduce dependence on diesel power plants, which had previously been the main source of electricity supply in the region.
With the presence of PLTU Sofifi, the electricity condition in Sofifi, which had previously often experienced deficits, is now expected to become more stable and even reach a surplus, allowing the public to enjoy a more reliable and sustainable electricity supply. (*)
