Jakarta, 27 October 2025 — PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP) once again reaffirmed its role as a key driver of Indonesia’s national energy transformation by winning six prestigious awards at the Subroto Awards 2025, organized by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) at the Kempinski Grand Ballroom, Jakarta.
The Subroto Awards represent the highest recognition from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources for energy sector stakeholders and partners who have made significant contributions to advancing Indonesia’s energy and mineral resources industry. This year’s awards were held as part of the 80th Anniversary of Mining and Energy Day, serving as a strategic momentum to support the Government’s Asta Cita agenda toward a sustainable energy transition and a green economy.
At the event, PLN Nusantara Power recorded an outstanding achievement by securing six awards across four strategic categories: Electricity Safety, Energy Efficiency, Bioenergy, and New and Renewable Energy (NRE). This accomplishment positions PLN NP as the top-performing power generation subholding within the PLN Group, further strengthening its reputation as a generation company firmly committed to safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
In his keynote address, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, emphasized that the development of Indonesia’s energy sector is now focused on creating added value through downstream industrialization and a sustainable energy transition. He highlighted that power sector programs and renewable energy development must be integral to the nation’s strategy for achieving energy independence and sovereignty, in line with the vision of President Prabowo Subianto.
“The Government is encouraging the reactivation of idle oil and gas wells, the development of gas infrastructure, and the expansion of new and renewable energy as part of our strategy to achieve Net Zero Emission,” said Bahlil Lahadalia.
President Director of PLN Nusantara Power, Ruly Firmansyah, expressed his appreciation for the awards, stating that they reflect the collective hard work of all PLN NP employees in delivering a power system that is safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible. He stressed that the recognition is not merely an accolade, but also a reminder of PLN NP’s responsibility to ensure safety and accelerate the energy transition as part of its service to the nation.
“These awards are tangible proof of our commitment to delivering power generation that is safe, efficient, and sustainable. PLN Nusantara Power will continue to serve as a key catalyst for Indonesia’s energy transition,” he stated.
In the Electricity Safety category, awards were presented to PLN NP units that have consistently applied the highest safety standards in power plant operations, namely PLTU Paiton Units 1, 2, and 9, PLTGU Muara Karang, and PLTA Besai. These units were recognized for maintaining high operational reliability through the implementation of integrated and sustainable electricity safety management systems, including digital risk monitoring and competency-based safety training. PLTU Paiton also received an award in the Bioenergy category.
In the Energy Efficiency category, PLTGU Muara Karang achieved notable recognition through innovations in gas turbine performance optimization, cooling system enhancement, and digital heat rate management. These initiatives have significantly improved generation efficiency while reducing carbon intensity, reflecting PLN NP’s commitment to embedding energy efficiency excellence across its operations.
Meanwhile, in the New and Renewable Energy category, the award was granted to PT Pembangkitan Jawa Bali Masdar Solar Energi (PMSE), a joint venture between PLN NP and Masdar (UAE). PMSE was recognized for its contribution to the development and operation of the 192 MWp Cirata Floating Solar Power Plant, now the largest floating solar project in Southeast Asia and a national icon of Indonesia’s clean energy transition. The project symbolizes strong international collaboration and clean energy innovation that delivers tangible value to the nation.
Ruly added that PLN NP will continue to strengthen its transformation into a future-ready energy company by focusing on operational efficiency and digitalization, embedding world-class safety culture across all units, and accelerating the development of new and renewable energy projects throughout Indonesia. Through these strategic initiatives, PLN NP aims not only to generate electricity, but also to create long-term value for society and the environment.
Through environmentally friendly technological innovation, enhanced operational efficiency, and strengthened environmental governance, PLN NP actively supports Indonesia’s national strategy toward Net Zero Emission 2060. The deployment of low-carbon technologies and the digitalization of generation systems across operations represent concrete steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while expanding access to reliable and affordable clean energy.
“We are not merely generating electricity—we are generating hope for a sovereign, sustainable, and green energy future for Indonesia,” Ruly Firmansyah concluded.
The Subroto Awards are the highest honors bestowed by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia to companies, institutions, and individuals that have made significant contributions to the energy and mineral resources sector. The name “Subroto” is derived from Prof. Dr. Subroto, Minister of Mining and Energy from 1978 to 1988, symbolizing dedication and innovation in the national energy sector.
As Indonesia’s largest power generation subholding, PLN Nusantara Power manages a total installed capacity of more than 18,304 MW, encompassing coal-, gas-, hydro-, geothermal-, and other renewable-based power plants. Through continuous innovation, digitalization, and a strong safety culture, PLN NP remains committed to supporting the PLN Group’s vision of achieving Net Zero Emission 2060 and strengthening Indonesia’s position as a resilient, independent, and sustainable power system.
