Jakarta, April 29 2026 - PT PLN Nusantara Power’s (PLN NP) commitment to delivering a just energy transition is realized not only through a reliable electricity supply, but also through community empowerment programs that yield tangible impacts. Through its Muara Karang Generation Unit (UP), PLN NP has introduced the Punggawa Nusantara Program (TB-Alert Village to Create Safe, Healthy, and Prosperous Families) as a community-based social innovation to support the accelerated elimination of tuberculosis in Indonesia.
This program stems from deep concern over the health, environmental, and socio-economic challenges faced by the community in Pluit Village, North Jakarta, which deals with the complex difficulties of tuberculosis (TB). Through a cross-sectoral approach, Punggawa Nusantara builds a collaborative ecosystem alongside local residents, public health centers (Puskesmas), village authorities, the company's fostered partner groups, and health cadres to strengthen prevention, early detection, patient mentoring, and local economic empowerment.
President Director of PLN Nusantara Power, Ruly Firmansyah, stated, “Punggawa Nusantara is a tangible testament that corporate social responsibility must be capable of driving systemic change. We believe that sustainability is not just about clean energy, but also about how the company actively pushes for a healthier, more independent, and resilient society. Through this program, PLN Nusantara Power aims to demonstrate that social innovation can serve as an engine to accelerate TB elimination while creating shared value for the community.”
Through its integrated sub-programs—Arjuna, Sadewa, Bima, and Nakula—PLN NP UP Muara Karang delivers comprehensive interventions ranging from the construction of communal sanitation facilities, mass TB screening utilizing chest X-rays, molecular rapid tests (TCM), and Mantoux tests, to patient monitoring via the BEBAS TB mobile application, and economic empowerment through circular economy-based community products.
The program is driven by Srikandi Nusantara, a group of local women-led TB cadres who serve as the spearhead for community education and patient mentoring. This community-driven approach has proven highly effective in reducing stigma and raising public awareness regarding the importance of early detection.
The program’s achievements demonstrate a significant impact. In 2025, public participation in TB screening rose by 83.4 percent compared to the previous year, with the number of suspected TB patients undergoing early detection growing from 517 to 948 people. Remarkably, the Punggawa Nusantara Program recorded a 100 percent cure rate in Pluit Village.
Senior Manager of PLN NP UP Muara Karang, Kurniawan Dwi Hananto, emphasized that the program is designed to foster community independence. “The community is not just an object of this initiative, but the primary driver of change. When the community is empowered, the program’s sustainability will grow naturally,” he remarked.
Beyond the health impacts, this program also enhances environmental quality through waste reduction, the utilization of clean energy for mobile X-ray vehicles, and the development of community businesses that boost the income of vulnerable groups.
This success also propelled PLN NP UP Muara Karang to achieve the Gold PROPER award in 2025—the highest recognition from the government for environmental excellence and community empowerment performance.
As one of the backbones of Jakarta’s electricity supply with an installed capacity of 2,105 MW, PLN NP UP Muara Karang proves that energy reliability can run hand-in-hand with a meaningful contribution to sustainable social development.(*)
