Bekasi, January 14 — PT PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP) officially opened the National Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Month at the Muara Tawar Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP). The event was led directly by the Minister of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening OHS culture within Indonesia’s electricity sector.
The opening of the National OHS Month, centered at the Muara Tawar Generation Unit, symbolizes stronger synergy between the government, state-owned enterprises, and key stakeholders in the power industry. As one of the main pillars of the Java–Bali interconnection system, Muara Tawar places occupational safety and health as a fundamental prerequisite for maintaining operational reliability and ensuring sustainable electricity supply for the public.
The selection of Muara Tawar as the host location is highly relevant, as the Muara Tawar CCPP is currently the largest power generation unit operated by PLN Nusantara Power and plays a strategic role in safeguarding national electricity reliability, particularly as a primary backbone of the Java–Bali interconnected system. As a strategic asset, the implementation of the highest safety standards at this facility serves as a benchmark for Indonesia’s energy industry.
In his remarks, the Minister of Manpower, Prof. Yassierli, S.T., M.T., Ph.D, emphasized that worker protection in the energy sector is a top priority, in line with the critical role of this facility within the national electricity landscape. According to him, OHS implementation is not only essential for protecting workers, but also a key factor in sustaining operational continuity and national productivity.
“This commemoration is not merely an annual ceremonial agenda, but a national moment of reflection to reaffirm our commitment to protecting Indonesian workers and building a safe, healthy, productive, and dignified workplace,” said Yassierli.
PLN Nusantara Power continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to workplace safety through its outstanding OHS performance. At the corporate level, PLN NP has recorded zero accidents and zero fatalities since 2018. Throughout 2025, PLN NP achieved a total of 42,429,401 safe man-hours. The Muara Tawar Generation Unit has been one of the significant contributors to this achievement. This success is the result of disciplined OHS management system implementation, continuous enhancement of workforce competencies, and the strengthening of a safety culture across all operational lines.
The President Director of PLN Nusantara Power stated that the National OHS Month serves as an important momentum to further reinforce the commitment of all employees to place safety as the highest priority.
“Power plant reliability must go hand in hand with occupational safety and health. At Muara Tawar, we have demonstrated that large-scale operations can be carried out with excellent OHS standards, including through Emergency Response Simulations and Fire Rescue Training,” he said.
The Emergency Response Simulations and Fire Rescue Training, which are routinely conducted across all PLN Nusantara Power generation units, aim to ensure that all personnel fully understand emergency response procedures—particularly those related to fire incidents, evacuation processes, and the rapid, accurate, and safe rescue of victims.
At the Muara Tawar Generation Unit, OHS digitalization has been implemented through online work permit systems, hazard reporting and OHS equipment inspections via application- and web-based platforms, as well as real-time OHS performance monitoring dashboards. The implementation of online work permits enhances transparency, documentation, and traceability for high-risk work approvals, thereby minimizing the potential for administrative errors and miscommunication in the field.
Through the commemoration of the National OHS Month, PLN Nusantara Power aims to further enhance awareness, care, and active participation among all employees and business partners in creating a safe, healthy, and productive working environment to support national energy resilience.
