Jakarta, February 3, 2026 — PT PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP) reaffirmed the achievement of the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of PLTG Kolaka through an official ceremony held in Kolaka, Southeast Sulawesi, on Saturday (January 31). The power plant, resulting from the relocation of PLTG Maleo Unit 3, has an installed capacity of 26.2 MW (net 22.7 MW) and officially reached COD on December 17, 2025, after obtaining the Certificate of Operational Feasibility (SLO), making it fully ready to operate within the national power system.
The relocation of this generating unit represents a strategic step in optimizing generation assets to address growing electricity demand in Southeast Sulawesi, particularly in areas experiencing significant industrial development and growth in high-voltage customers. The relocation project was carried out by PLN Nusantara Power Services (PLN NPS), a subsidiary of PLN NP, which was responsible for the dismantling of the unit at its original site, transportation, reinstallation, construction of supporting infrastructure, as well as the commissioning, synchronization, reliability run, and final preparation for commercial operation.
Director of Gas Power Plant Operations at PLN Nusantara Power, Komang Parmita, stated that this moment is not merely the inauguration of a power plant unit.
“The COD ceremony of PLTG Kolaka is not only a marker of the operation of a generating unit. It is an affirmation that electricity is the foundation of social justice, a driver of economic growth, and a prerequisite for public welfare. The relocation of PLTG Maleo Unit 3 to operate as PLTG Kolaka is a strategic step by PLN Nusantara Power to ensure that energy is available in the right place, at the right time, with increasingly efficient and affordable costs,” he said.
He added that PLTG Kolaka brings added value to the reliability of electricity supply in Southeast Sulawesi, system stability, operational efficiency, and sustainability through asset management that complies with safety and environmental standards.
“We do not merely manage power plants; we safeguard the pulse of economic and social life. Reliable and affordable electricity enables industries to grow, MSMEs to expand, public services to operate optimally, and communities to have equal opportunities to advance,” he added.
Meanwhile, EVP of Strategic Planning of PLN (Persero), Parulian Noviandri, emphasized that the operation of PLTG Kolaka is part of the broader strategy of the PLN Group.
“The COD of PLTG Kolaka is not merely the commencement of operations of a generating unit, but reflects the tangible presence of the PLN Group in ensuring the availability of reliable and sustainable electricity supply capable of addressing the challenges of growing electricity demand in Southeast Sulawesi,” he explained.
He noted that Southeast Sulawesi has significant mining and downstream industrial potential, thereby requiring a responsive electricity system.
“Gas turbines such as PLTG Kolaka are designed to be responsive and flexible. The fluctuating load characteristics of smelter industries require generation units that can quickly adjust to changes in demand. This is the strategic role of PLTG Kolaka within the system,” he said.
Parulian also stressed that the relocation of this generating unit reflects the PLN Group’s consistency in responding to surging electricity demand through the provision of generation, transmission, and distribution infrastructure.
“This COD momentum is also a strategic momentum for regional development. Adequate and reliable electricity is a prerequisite for investment growth. With the operation of PLTG Kolaka, the business climate in Southeast Sulawesi becomes increasingly conducive, and economic opportunities become more open,” he added.
The success of this project, he continued, is the result of collaboration within the PLN Group, particularly PLN NP, together with local governments and all stakeholders.
Through the operation of PLTG Kolaka, PLN Nusantara Power reaffirms its commitment to providing reliable, efficient, and sustainable electricity, while strengthening national energy resilience and supporting inclusive economic growth in Southeast Sulawesi. (*)
