The Indonesian Carbon Exchange (IDXCarbon),

which was launched by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo at the Main Hall of PT Bursa Efek Indonesia (BEI) on Tuesday (26/9) will be even more interesting. PT PLN (Persero) will soon be listed on the Indonesian carbon exchange. With its potential, PLN will become the largest trader on the Indonesian carbon exchange by opening the equivalent of almost 1 million tons of CO2. This is part of PLN’s steps to support the government in reducing emissions and accelerating the energy transition.

PLN’s seriousness in leading carbon trading in Indonesia is by obtaining the first Emission Reduction Certificate (SPE) in Indonesia through a non-conversion mechanism with an international mechanism.

“The first gas-fired generating unit in Indonesia, the Block 3 Muara Karang Steam Gas Power Plant (PLTGU) will lead the way for PLN power plants to enter the carbon exchange. This PLTGU has a greenhouse gas (GHG) SPE from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry and has been recorded as successful in reducing carbon dioxide equivalent to almost 1 million tonnes in 2022. PLTGU Block 3 Muara Karang uses 100% gas fuel that has been regasified from LNG in Floating Storage and Regassification Unit (FSRU) using LNG supply. This PLTGU is also equipped with the latest and most efficient gas turbine technology which uses the Combine Cycle method.
